I often use KAATSU three times a day. Some people think KAATSU can only be used while working out. While it’s great for that, you can use KAATSU for other reasons that that. Here’s what I do with my KAATSU.
Please note: before using KAATSU more than once a day, you will ideally have gone through the acclimation process so that your body is used to the stimulation KAATSU provides.
Morning
I’ll strap on my KAATSU AirBands when I get into the office each morning. I typically do 6 Sets in Cycle mode on arms, followed by the same for my legs. This is roughly an hour of KAATSU to start the day. I have a sit/stand desk and a walking treadmill in the office. No matter what configuration I’m in, I’ll use my KAATSU.
Why? Primarily for the boost in circulation that KAATSU provides. And, since I’m just getting started with the day, I will often do some stretching while wearing KAATSU. If I’m not on the treadmill, I’m usually on a SP1KE mat from Vigurus Technologies (note: this is an affiliate link) and I’ll do some very light exercises (mini-lunges, squats, heel raises etc.) while working.
Afternoon
Depending on how the day’s gone and what my evening activities are, I’ll often use KAATSU in the late afternoon (always in Cycle mode) before going to the dojo. I teach the martial art of Kendo (Japanese fencing), so I like to wear KAATSU while I’m getting ready for class.
Why? Again, for the boost in circulation. I’ll have been standing or sitting all day, so it’s nice to get my legs feeling pumped and warmed up before class. KAATSU is an easy way to give me a pre-warmup, which I personally find more important the older I get.
Evening
I personally find using KAATSU in the evening very relaxing. Sitting and reading on the couch, listening to music, and KAATSU in Cycle mode is a nice evening routine. There’s a lot of anecdotal evidence that KAATSU use within an hour of going to sleep can improve sleep quality. While I think there’s probably a good amount of individual variability with that (i.e. your results may differ), I like the feeling I have after using KAATSU. I’m more relaxed and perhaps that translates into better sleep.
If I’ve been at the dojo, I definitely want to use KAATSU in the evening to help me recover from the workout. Having had multiple injuries in the past, I am grateful for KAATSU’s anti-inflammatory effects. The increase in circulation KAATSU provides also helps flush out metabolic waste and pushes extra blood, oxygen, and nutrients through all the capillaries in my limbs, helping aid recovery.
Is Three Times the Maximum?
We’ve all heard that it’s possible to get too much of a good thing. The same is true with KAATSU. There are no documented benefits to using KAATSU more than three times per day. Dr. Sato’s been doing KAATSU now for more than 50 years. He also uses KAATSU three times per day, but no more than that. If you consider the multiple benefits of KAATSU, knowing that you can use it up to three times per day makes it an even better investment.
