This summer we're doing some work with the Niagara Ironbacks baseball team's pitchers. The Ironbacks are part of the PGCBL - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. This league was founded in 2010 by eight summer baseball teams in conjunction with Perfect Game USA, which is baseball's largest scouting service. The Niagara Ironbacks joined the PGCBL in 2025 and play at George Taylor Field in St. Catharines.
I met team owner Mal Romanin at a Business After 5 event we hosted through the Niagara Board of Trade & Commerce last year. When he heard what KAATSU can do, he was immediately interested in having it available for his players to use. We agreed to set up a trial program for this season. The focus is on pitchers and catchers. You can see in the photo above that the players wearing KAATSU are doing so only on one arm. These two are pitchers who will be using KAATSU while they're warming up, as well as for recovery once they're finished throwing for the day. Catchers will probably use KAATSU on their arm(s) and legs since they have to be in a crouch for much of the game which is more stressful on their lower bodies.
I attended a team practice to introduce KAATSU to the pitching staff and players. The pitching coach commented that he was thrilled that the KAATSU approach to resistance training matched with his perspectives (i.e. light weight but higher reps). I think almost all the pitchers used KAATSU at the practice and the feedback was very positive.Â
The home opener for the Niagara Ironbacks is tonight, so we'll be at the ballpark before, during, and after the game. If you're at the game, look for me near the Ironbacks bullpen or dugout! Hoping for some hot, KAATSU-boosted arms tonight!
More to follow . . . 🙂
